Barton Turf lies at the north end of Barton Broad, which itself is on the pretty River Ant. It is reputed that Lord Nelson, who grew up in Norfolk, learned to sail on Barton Broad. Barton Board Walk is a track through the differing habitats of the Norfolk Broads.
