Martham is a fair sized village lying around 10 miles from Great Yarmouth. The River Thurne is adjacent and you are on the doorstep of Martham and Hickling Broads. Martham has a population of around 3,500 inhabitants and is a 30 minute drive from central Norwich.
Things to see and do:
Martham is situated in the middle of perhaps, the most scenic and untouched parts of the Norfolk Broads. The River Thurne above Potter Heigham has little traffic due to its height restricting bridge. As such, a half or full day's self-drive hire boat trip is very rewarding. You can hire from Martham Ferry Boats, or from a number of boatyards in Potter Heigham. Also in Potter Heigham is Lathams discount store. This place attracts visitors from miles around and is well worth a visit. You are just 10 miles from Great Yarmouth, so for those in your party who like the bucket and spade day out, a drive into the town is a must. Yarmouth has two piers, a long sandy beach, a Sealife Centre, a bustling market place and the Marina Seafront Centre, which is a swimming pool complex.
Local pubs, restaurants:
The Kings Arms is a large pub with a dining room, set off the main road through Martham. A little further on is the Victoria Inn. Both offer a good choice of food menu.
Cafes and takeaways:
The Debiz cafe is on Black Street, close to the centre of the village, serving hot and cold food, tea and coffee etc. Martham has a kebab and pizza takeaway and a fish and chip shop.
Other Shops:
The East Of England Co-op have a supermarket, and you will also find an independent butchers, a pet supplies shop, a pharmacy and a medical centre.
