Oulton Broad is lovely waterside area adjacent to Lowestoft with a population of around 4,500 people, and is located a couple of miles inland from the sea. It is dominated by a large Broad, bordered by  parkland, hotels and bars, extravagant dwellings on the north shore, and reed beds and marinas on the south. Using the A146, it is a 45 minute drive from central Norwich.
Things to see and do:
The broad is the centre of much of the activities on offer here. You can hire a self drive day boat or board a passenger launch to see more of the River Waveney. Oulton Broad hosts powerboat racing most Thursday evenings in the summer, which can be easily viewed from it's shores. The adjacent Nicholas Everitt Park, is a delightful green space with formal flower beds, trees, outdoor swimming pool, a children’s play area, cafe and walking trails which take you around the edge of the broad. A little further away are Carlton Marshes which preserve a Broadland landscape with its drained flower marshes. Pleasurewood Hills is a 59 acre theme park just to the south of Lowestoft with enough thrills to keep everyone happy for a day. For the traditional bucket and spade day by the sea, head for nearby Lowestoft.
Local pubs, restaurants:
The Wherry Inn, is a large concern with a restaurant and terrace overlooking the Broad. On nearby Bridge Road, you will find
The Lady of the Lake, which hosts live music at weekends, and
The Waveney. The Commodore is situated on Commodore Road (surprise!). Another option is the
Broadview Winebar, which overlooks the Yacht Station and has weekend live music. All establishments offer food. There are many restaurants in Oulton Broad, including the Copper Steakhouse,
Karachi Darbar Tandoori and Marmaris Turkish Restaurant.
Cafes and takeaways:
The Number 142 Cafe and Bar is on Bridge Street. The Quays Coffee Bar is next to the Yacht Station. Oulton Broad is a built up area so there is a wide choice of takeaways including fish and chip shops, Chinese and Indian takeaways and a Kebab shop.
Other Shops:
A Co-op supermarket is off Westwood Avenue. Tesco Esso Express is on the A146. There are many small convenience stores, a hair dresser, a GP surgery and nearby pharmacy. Natwest has a branch on Bridge Road.
