Potter Heigham

Potter Heigham is a village which straddles the River Thurne, and is perhaps most noted for it's low arched bridge, which restricts access to the upper reaches of the river. It is a 35 minute drive from Norwich using the A47 and the A1064. Potter Heigham has a population of just over one thousand.

Things to see and do:
Being on the river, the primary attraction is to hire a self drive boat for a few hours or so. Three boatyards offer launch hire. Potter Heigham bridge is too low for many hire-craft to pass under. As such, hiring a launch is a great way to see the more secluded, untouched waters above the bridge. Actually, spending an hour or two by the bridge, watching the hire-craft come and go is a spectacle in itself. Watching the bridge pilots take cabin cruisers under is thrilling, as there is very little room for mistakes. Lathams Superstore attracts people from miles around. It's an Aladdin's cave of bargains. I challenge you to walk around and come out without buying anything. Horsey Gap, which is famous for seal viewing and Winterton On Sea are just a short drive away.

Local pubs, restaurants:
The Norada public house, is situated next to the bridge and offers a full food menu, together with occasional evening entertainment. A further 10 minute walk brings you to the Falgate Inn, which also has a food menu.

Cafes and takeaways:

A favourite amongst locals and visitors, is Bridgestones, a licensed cafe by the bridge. It offers a full menu during the day and is well known for its irresistible (believe me) range of cakes. A fish and chip restaurant and takeaway is located on the opposite side of Potter Heigham bridge. The Norada also operates a takeaway pizza and burger service.

Other Shops:
There are no banks in the village, but a post office general store operates close to the Falgate Inn. A newsagent is available in Lathams, who also operate a fishing tackle shop, opposite the main store.
