Ranworth is a quiet little village dominated by Malthouse and Ranworth Broads. It is reached by boat from the River Bure and by car via the A47, and is a 22 minute drive from Norwich City Centre.
Things to see and do:
The green space by the quay is a lovely place to spend a pleasant hour or two watching the hire-craft coming and going at these very popular moorings. Ranworth Broad is private and therefore closed to river traffic. As such, it is relatively untouched. A good way to see it is to walk the short trail to the Ranworth Visitor Centre, which takes you through reed beds, and marshland. The center is a floating building on the edge of the broad. It's main attraction is it's views across the water. You may see kingfishers, cormorants, marsh harriers and all manner of waterfowl. The elusive swallowtail butterfly is also present. St Helens Church is a tall 14th century building with a 100ft high tower. The views from the top are amazing, though the 89 steps and 2 ladders may put some people off. On display within the church are a beautiful painted medieval screen, trumpeted as the best preserved in the country. and a service book, The Ranworth Antiphoner, both which date back to the 15th century.
Local pubs, restaurants:
The Maltsters, is a situated a few steps from the green and offers a good food menu. It has very occasional live music in the season and is popular with locals and holidaymakers.
Cafes and takeaways:
The Granary Stores is by the green and houses a coffee shop offering snacks and cakes and is open daytime only. The Maltsters sells takeaway pizzas.
Other Shops:
The Granary Stores is the only provisions outlet in the village. It also has a range of gifts for purchase. The next nearest major centre is Wroxham, which is a 12 minute drive away. Here you will find Roys supermarket, department store and garden centre, as well as many independent stores. More information
