The Waveney River Centre The Waveney River Centre

Waveney River Centre

The Waveney River Centre, is an award winning holiday park which has been purpose built to cater for those wanting to stay close to but not on the water. It consists of various types of holiday accommodation including apartments, lodges and cottages. It's a 40 minute drive from Norwich, using the A146, and is close to the seaside resort of Lowestoft, though you would need to detour back through St Olaves to cross the River Waveney, which separates the centre from the seaside resort.

Things to see and do:
The centre has lots of "built in" entertainment in the form of an indoor swimming pool, a children's play area, a wild-flower garden and bike hire. Being on the River Waveney, the centre has a range of self-drive dayboat craft for hire, from which you can explore the southern Broads, including the delightful Oulton Broad - (click HERE for more information), and the Edwardian streets of Beccles, (click HERE). Nature lovers can take the ferry across to explore the Carlton Marshes Reserve, a mix of wetland habitats, including reed, marsh and fen – all reclaimed from farmland. A short drive will take you to Somerleyton, with it's fabulous stately home and grounds, open to the public. If the family want all the fun of the fair, take them to Pleasurewood Hills, a theme park less than 30 minutes drive from the centre.

Local pubs, restaurants:
The Waveney Inn is the on-site entertainment centre. It has a range of food to suit all palates and offers evening entertainment for all the family. A 15 minute drive away, is the little riverside village of St Olaves. Here you will find the Bell Inn, reputed to be the oldest public house on the Norfolk Broads. It is now a well thought of establishment, with large riverside gardens from which to watch the river traffic. A wide ranging menu is available and weekend evening reservations are recommended.

Cafes and takeaways:

The centre operates its own cafe and takeaway. The town of Beccles is a 15 minute drive away, where you will find The Garden Tearooms, Bailey's Delicatessen and Tyfords Cafe, all situated in the town centre. There is no shortage of takeaways to stop at on your way back from a day's outing.

Other Shops:
The centre has its own supermarket and laundrette. A wider range of shops can be found in nearby Beccles, including two supermarkets, a department store, independent butchers, newsagents and clothing stores. Click HERE for more information.
