Wayford Bridge

Wayford Bridge takes its name from the crossing over the River Ant which flows through the the village. It consists of a few dwellings and holiday accommodation in the form of apartments and houseboats. Norwich is a 30 minute drive away.

Things to see and do:
The upper reaches of the River Ant are very scenic. Take advantage of the scenery on your doorstep by hiring a canoe or self-drive dayboat from Banks Boats close to the bridge. You can expect to see the kingfisher, heron, grebe and all manner of wildfowl, as well as native insects such as dragonflies and butterflies, in these secluded waters. The Broads Museum is two miles away in Stalham. Here life across the Broads over the last century is displayed with around 6,000 items on display, from farming to household to marine exhibits. Wroxham, often described as the capital of the Broads, is a 15 minute easy drive away. Wroxham is a holiday centre with lots to entertain the family. The Bure Valley Narrow Gauge Railway runs from here to Aylsham, a distance of nine miles, and is mostly steam hauled. Broads Tours operate passenger launches from which to see the area, usually including Wroxham and Salhouse Broads, and the delightful waterside village of Horning. Wroxham has its own train station with regular fast connections into Norwich, either to visit the fine city or to take the train to areas of the south including Brundall, Reedham and Oulton Broad.

Local pubs, restaurants:
The Wayford Bridge Inn is located adjacent to the bridge. It offers bar and restaurant food of a good standard and it is advisable to book a table should you wish to dine in the restaurant in the evening. The next nearest outlets are situated in nearby Stalham, where you will find the Swan Inn, The Grebe and the Harnser, all of which offer food menus. The Mermaids Slipper is a fine dining venue located close to Stalham Staithe, and is very popular with locals.

Cafes and takeaways:

Vera’s Coffee House can be found in nearby Wayford Nurseries. It offers hot and cold food and refreshments.

Other Shops:
The only convenience store in the village is at the Fairview Garage located on the A1151, just past the bridge. You are however close to Stalham which has lots of retail outlets including a Tesco Supermarket, an independent butcher, a newsagents and a pharmacy. For more details click HERE.
